Post-Operative Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation

Why Is Physiotherapy Important After Surgery?

Physiotherapy plays an important role in helping you recover safely and effectively after surgery. A personalised rehabilitation programme can help reduce pain and swelling, restore full range of motion, rebuild strength and help you reach your previous level of function. We will guide you through each stage of recovery while considering your surgery, healing timeframes and individual goals.

Every patient and every surgery is different. Your rehabilitation programme will be tailored to your specific procedure, current abilities and recovery goals. Treatment may include hands-on therapy, mobility exercises, progressive strengthening, balance and stability work, movement retraining and education on how to safely increase your activity levels. Your programme will progress as your strength, mobility and confidence improve, with exercises adjusted according to your recovery and your surgeon's recommendations.

Return to Sport & Normal Activity

Returning to normal activities and sport should be a gradual process rather than simply waiting for pain to disappear. Rehabilitation focuses on rebuilding the strength, enhancing your movement quality, control and confidence required for your specific activities. For active patients and athletes, your programme can progress towards running, jumping, change of direction, sport-specific movements and higher-level strength and conditioning where appropriate. Our goal is to help you return to the activities you enjoy safely and confidently. We work closely with Biokineticst in our area and will refer you on to complete the final phase of rehab.
